Baker is the last California
town on Interstate 15, which is the main
southern California route to Las Vegas. We are on the western edge
of the Mojave National Preserve and near the southern boundary of
Death Valley National Monument.
Surrounding Baker is a open and stark desert land. Majestic
mountains rise from the salt encrusted dry lake beds. Towering sand
dunes reach eternally to the sky and are shaped and reshaped by the
ever shifting desert winds. Ancient volcanoes scattered about
the vast wilderness and the remnants of there power can be seen
throughout the wide span of the Mojave. Joshua trees and other
plants reach forth with a thorny greeting to the unwary visitor.
Desert creatures watch silently as man explore their arid
environment.
Baker is proud of our heritage and is home to the "World’s
Tallest Thermometer" which commemorates the high summer temperatures
for which we are so justly famous. as well as the "Gateway to Death
Valley" and the "Entrance to the Mojave National Preserve".
Whatever brings you to our Beautiful Desert, be it the solitude,
recreation, exploration, study, adventure or just a quick stop on
the road to Las Vegas. The People of
Baker and the Baker Chamber of Commerce Welcome
You.
